Go shopping? Take along a practical and eco-friendly fabric bag made of rags that remain after sewing blouses, skirts and dresses.
BAG SIZE: 15 ¾ inches x 16 ¾ inches.
YOU WILL NEED: cotton fabric size. 27 x 44 inches, composed of shreds that fit together in pattern and quality. Knitting needle. Suitable threads for sewing.
Open and grind the flaps into a canvas of size. 27 x 44 inches.
CUT TO: From flaps stacked into the canvas, cut 2 rectangles of size. 18 x 20 inches for the front and back of the bag. For pens, cut out 2 rectangles of size. 18 x 4 inches.
Pens
On one of the rectangles for pens, iron long sections on the wrong side ½ inch wide on one side and 1 inch wide on the other. Wrap the side with the narrower hem again and iron the strip properly so that it extends 1/2 inch beyond the other ironed edge. Now sew in the middle, then left and right of the first line, see photo. Repeat for the second handle of the bag.
Top edge
Iron the upper sections of the bag to the wrong side ½ inch wide. Wrap the upper edge, but do not yet sew, ½ inch wide again. Under the twisted edges, lay the ends of the handles at a distance of 4 ½ inches from the side sections. The handles are directed down and inside the bag, see photo.
Top edge and handles
Stitch the hem to the hem. Wrap the handles up (see photo).
To hold the handle tighter, stitch it crosswise, see the bottom photo. Fasten the ends of the seams with a few stitches in the opposite direction. Also stitch the second handle of the bag.
Assembly
Fold the bag inside out. Stitch ¼ inch wide. Secure all seams with a few stitches in the opposite direction. Turn the bag so that the wrong side is on top. Pull the corners with a knitting needle. Iron and sew again ½ inch from the seams.
Turn the finished bag onto your face and iron again.
Inches and centimeters
Very often, patchwork books appear on sale, where sizes are given in inches. These books are usually written by English or American authors. Our materials are also transferable and often translation is from English. For this reason, we have given here the dimensions in inches, and at the end of the instructions we provide a photograph of the ruler in inches and centimeters.
