Curtains or curtains made of tulle, organza and other thin "capricious" materials should be hemmed with special care. We have put together practical tips and videos to make everything clear.
How to hem a tulle: tips

1. Thread selection
To sew curtains from tulle, organza and other delicate fabrics, take thread No. 40 and finer. If the fabric is translucent, the color of the threads can be selected a little lighter than the fabric, so they will be less noticeable in clearance.
2. Machine needle and stitch length
Take a thin sharp needle for the machine. Such a needle is less likely to tighten or tear the fabric. (If you will use pins at work, also choose the most thin and sharp.) Sew a stitch with a stitch of 3-4 mm. Well, before starting work, try to sew tulle on a draft shred. By the way, when working with a very thin fabric, you can sew a line on tissue paper, and then tear off the paper.
3. Preparation
Before working, it is better to iron the tulle / organza. It is convenient to cover the working surface with ironed cotton fabric, so the curtain fabric will glide less.
4. Saving the processed bottom edge
If the fabric purchased for the curtain has a special weighting material or decorative finish that you want to keep, then hem the curtain only on the sides. Adjust the length of the curtains from above. Read here how to choose the length of the curtain and sew on the curtain tape.

How to hem a tulle: master class
You will need:
- scissors;
- threads;
- sewing machine;
- a manual needle;
- possibly - pins, iron.
Work sequence:
1. First align and hem the sides of the curtain. In the case of tulle, organza, it is convenient to pry a single thread of fabric with a needle and stretch it along the entire length, and trim the curtain along the resulting path.
2. You can tuck the side edges inward 1 cm two times and sew.
3. It is also good to hem curtains from thin fabrics with a Moscow seam. It is performed as follows: first, the edge of the curtain must be turned 1 cm inwards 1 time and sewn, 1 mm back from the hem. Then trim the free edge of the hem. Now turn the edge one more time inward and sew again.
4. Now you need to hem the bottom of the curtains. You can hem it with the same Moscow seam as you hemmed the sides. Or - make the hem a little wider and hem the hem by making a double twist (see paragraph 2).
5. Another option for processing the bottom of such curtains is to process them with a wide Moscow seam. Turn the lower edge of the curtain inward once by the desired length of the hem (in this case, 2.5 cm). For fidelity, you can fix the door with pins or use an iron - or regularly check the width of the hem. Lay the stitch backward from a fold of 1 mm. In this case, do not cut the edge, but fold it inward again (the previous line will make an even fold, and the edge of the fabric will help you navigate the width of the hem) and stitch it. Make stitches at the beginning and end of the line.
6. It remains to process the upper edge and sew the curtain tape. Turn the top edge to the desired width, bend the edge of the tape (see photo). Secure the tape with pins. Stitch the tape first on the top and then on the bottom edge. If the tape is wide, sew again in the center. The main thing is not to sew the cords with which the tape is going. Make stitches at the beginning and end of the stitches.
