Basque works flawlessly: you can not only create a feminine silhouette, but also adjust the main shortcomings of the figure depending on its type.

Feminine, elegant, this strip of fabric, which we call today the Basques, appeared back in the 16th century as part of the men's costume worn at Queen Victoria’s court. However, over the following centuries, this ruffle made of dense fabric, fastened at the waist, gradually moved to the women's wardrobe, and already in the 17th century she appeared in the costume of the infant, in the 18th century she adorned the wide Rococo skirts, in the 19th century it was combined with crinolines. And finally, in the twentieth century, Spanish designer Cristobal Balenciaga revived the Basque fashion. A peplum jacket is also an integral part of the Dior collections.

Since then, the Basque has repeatedly come into fashion, because it has never completely left the fashion collections of world brands. What is the reason for this popularity? Everything is very simple: this small frill is able to correct any figure - but only if you chose it correctly.

Rectangle shape: your main problem is the waist, which must be emphasized and “created” by any possible means, and the basqua will help you. It is she who will help visually expand the hips, so that as a result an imitation of an hourglass is obtained. Models in which the classic basque is clearly on the line where the bottleneck is located in proportion are suitable for you.

Apple shape: as in the previous case, the waist is a problem zone, only the “apple” has a fairly pronounced tummy, and the basque will help to hide it. As for a figure of the "rectangle" type, it is recommended to place the basque in the narrowest place, but at the same time its length should be just such as to cover the tummy, as a rule, this is at least 15-20 cm.

It is recommended not to highlight the basques with color - it should merge with the main shade of the outfit.

Inverted Triangle Shape: your weak spot is wide shoulders combined with narrow hips. In this case, the basque will help to visually expand the hips and give the lower half of the body the necessary volume. Choose lush basques, if possible even with pleats.

Pear shape: problem place - lush hips. The most risky option for a Basques, because a bad landing or length of the Basques will make you larger. Choose a long basque, which will be either a couple of centimeters higher, or slightly below the widest line across the width of the thigh.
For a “pear”, the best option would work with a tight bottom - it will slim and visually stretch the figure. Avoid the basques with side folds, they will make the hips even more massive.

What to combine the basque with?

If you correctly selected the shape of the Basques that matches the type of your figure, then, oddly enough, with what to combine the Basques is a secondary question, because it will be combined with almost any thing in your wardrobe, while adjusting your figure.

Peplum top

Such a top, whether it be a dense closed blouse or a very summer weightless t-shirt, looks perfect with mini and midi length skirts, as well as tight-fitting trousers of any length. The combination of a top with a peplum + maxi skirt also has a right to exist, but in some cases it can be somewhat massive.

Skirt with Basques

Most effective such an element of the wardrobe will look complete with a fitted top (one of the most common options is a plain t-shirt), but classic shirts are also acceptable.

The length of the peplum skirt can be absolutely any, but maxi is the least likely to occur again. To create an evening look, play with textures - a peplum skirt embroidered with sequins looks so impressive that it does not require any additions!

Dress Basques

A great way not to bother with the topic of what to combine with a basques is to choose a dress with a basques! Moreover, it is not difficult to find dresses with unusual basques: asymmetrical or, for example, with non-standard folds, which means that you can easily stand out from the crowd.
Choose options in which the peplum is not emphasized by color or bright finish: as practice shows, monophonic options look more elegant and noblest of all.
